So, as many of you know I had the privilege, and I do mean privilege, of watching you guys at competition this past weekend. I’ll be honest, I was nervous about seeing the band compete after so many years of being a part of the group myself. I felt like a parent letting their child try something on their own for the first time (a little weird, I know). When you marched on the field, I was a little nervous. When you marched off the field, I was more than a little ecstatic. You guys simply blew me away. I can’t begin to tell you how impressed I was with the sound and movement of the group. Even after watching the video online a couple times, I still smile watching the show. You guys were terrific. I can honestly say that was the best show I have heard from Thompson in years, even while being there myself. I’m so jealous that I did not get to be a part of it, but I’m also extremely proud of all you. To the class of 2012, I hope you left everything on that field. Four years of sweat and hard work and dedication, not to mention the inevitable band drama, all brought you to one night. I could tell you put everything in it. I’m so proud of you. I’ve watched many of you grow up from tiny little freshman into honest musicians, and it has been an honor. Take your talents and go far. To this years Juniors, the bar has been set. It’s up to you. You’ve been given the tools and the opportunity to be a part of something more special than you know. I can’t wait to see where you go from here. So, in the end, I just want all of you to know that you are still my Marching Southern Sounds Family, and I love all of you guys. Keep up the good work. I’ll see you around, and of course, ROLL TIDE!!
